Two mixes made from similar ingredients can behave differently when their particle-size distributions differ.
Particles create the pore system
Smaller particles can occupy spaces between larger particles. That changes pore distribution, water retention, air space, handling, settling, and stability—even when two mixes use similar ingredient names.

Do not judge only from the surface
A mix can look dry on top while remaining wet lower in the container. Inspect moisture and roots through the profile, and consider container height, irrigation frequency, crop uptake, and production duration.
